In the arena , we are guided by the impulse of others. From casual swimmers practicing routinely, to budding athletes aiming to develop their performance to champions heading for the finish - we believe everyone has their own inspiration for getting in the water.
 
The inspiration to dive into the world of competition costumes of sports visionary Horst Dassler came from athlete Mark Spitz. At the 1972 Olympics, Dassler saw Spitz make swimming history by winning seven Olympic gold medals and setting the world record in all seven events he competed in. Spitz's spectacular performance and drive to win is what prompted Dassler to launch arena in 1973. Based on his experience, Dassler realized that developing a new standard of swimwear and equipment would require the recruitment of world-class athletes to tirelessly study how to improve their performance and design to enable them to express themselves and feel confident both in and out of the water. The initial result was the creation of arena's Skinfit technology, an ultralight fabric designed to fit a swimmer's body like a second skin, which forever revolutionized the performance and style of countless athletes and the world of water sports.

Being guided by the impulse of others, however, also means that we have always been induced to evolve. The lessons we learned from helping pro swimmers and water sports athletes win and achieve more continue to inspire our style and provide information for our groundbreaking research in fluid dynamics, textiles and biomechanics. With Dassler's vision in mind, we were able to make amazing discoveries about underwater performance and hydrodynamic design: how to reduce friction and drag, increase speed and buoyancy, regulate body temperature, optimize muscle compression for reduce fatigue and improve overall stability while swimming. Nonetheless, our experience in collaborating with world-class athletes has also allowed us to think that designing for performance means more than simply offering the best technology - it means offering a design that instills confidence and motivates everyone who wears it to reach. their best potential.
